Whether you're travelling from a central London hotel or arriving straight from Heathrow, the journey to SW19 needs more planning than a typical London transfer. The roads around the All England Club were never designed for the volume of cars, taxis and coaches that arrive each day of the tournament, and a plan made the night before beats a decision made in the queue for the car park.

Travelling from central London

Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Chelsea and Belgravia all sit within a reasonable drive of Wimbledon, but road closures around SW19 during The Championships, together with general event-day traffic, can extend journey times well beyond a normal day. Southfields and Wimbledon Park see the heaviest congestion, particularly along the approach roads used by both spectators and residents.

A chauffeur familiar with the local closures can plan the approach and the return route in advance, rather than working it out on the day. That often means a slightly longer but more reliable route around the busiest junctions, chosen because it actually moves rather than because it looks shortest on a map.

Travelling from Heathrow

Heathrow arrivals heading straight to Wimbledon can be met at the terminal and driven directly to SW19, with the same event-day planning applied to the final approach. This suits overseas visitors and hospitality guests arriving on the morning of their session, particularly when luggage needs to be stored or dropped at a hotel first.

Where can we actually be dropped off?

During The Championships, vehicles cannot simply pull up outside the gates. Drop-off and collection are arranged at an agreed point in the Church Road area or another sensible meeting point away from the immediate ground, confirmed with you in advance. This is a genuine restriction rather than a preference, and it applies to every private vehicle, not just chauffeur services.

Deciding when to leave

For morning sessions, leaving with a wider margin than you would for a normal appointment is sensible, particularly on the first Monday and during the second week when crowds build earlier. For evening finishes, especially on Centre Court, it is worth assuming the roads will still be busy for some time after the final point is played, rather than expecting an immediate clear run.

Corporate hospitality and groups

Corporate hospitality guests often want to arrive together and leave at broadly the same time, which suits a coordinated chauffeur booking rather than everyone arranging their own transport. This matters more at Wimbledon than at most venues, since guests arriving separately can end up dropped at different meeting points depending on when they travel.

Larger groups are usually better served by a V-Class or equivalent, keeping guests together for the journey down and the journey home. For very large hospitality parties, multiple coordinated vehicles with a single point of contact tend to work better than trying to fit everyone into one car.
