Heathrow's largest terminal, spread across three buildings
Terminal 5 is Heathrow's biggest terminal complex, made up of a main building and two satellite buildings connected by an internal transit system, and the walk from an aircraft stand at a satellite building through to the main arrivals hall can be genuinely longer than at some of Heathrow's other terminals. We factor that into your collection timing rather than assuming a short, uniform walk regardless of gate.
Terminal allocations at Heathrow are reallocated from time to time, so please confirm your terminal on your booking. We check the terminal against your flight number before travel and brief your chauffeur to the correct arrivals point within the complex.
A high volume of domestic, European and long-haul flights, stated carefully
Terminal 5 has generally handled a very large share of British Airways' domestic, European and long-haul network, though airline and terminal allocations are set by the airlines and Heathrow and can shift, so we do not treat any particular carrier's presence as fixed. What matters for your journey is that the terminal sees a high volume and frequency of arrivals across the day, so the arrivals hall can be busy at peak banks even outside long-haul-specific hours.
For arrivals after an overnight long-haul sector, we build a sensible allowance for immigration and baggage reclaim into your collection plan, and complimentary waiting time is measured from actual landing rather than the scheduled time.
Party size, luggage and connecting passengers
Because Terminal 5 is used for both short domestic hops and long-haul arrivals, the luggage and party sizes we see vary widely, from a single business traveller with hand luggage to families or groups returning from a long trip with a full set of cases.
