American Visitors: Getting to Premier League Matches and Wimbledon by Private Chauffeur
Written for American visitors planning to attend a Premier League match or Wimbledon during a London trip, this guide covers the transport side only — drop-off realities, timing around crowds and how to plan the journey once tickets are already secured.

In short
Getting to a Premier League match or a day at Wimbledon by private chauffeur is straightforward, but both events involve road closures, pedestrianised zones and drop-off points that sit some distance from the gate, so timing needs to account for walking time and crowd build-up. Tickets, hospitality packages and match or tournament access are arranged entirely separately by you; a chauffeur handles the transport to and from the venue only.
This guide is for American visitors who already have tickets, hospitality access or a plan to attend a Premier League match or a day at Wimbledon, and want to understand how the private transport side works around crowds, road closures and timing.
To be clear from the outset: a chauffeur booking arranges the vehicle and the journey to and from a venue. It has no connection to match tickets, Wimbledon debentures or grounds passes, hospitality packages, or any form of guaranteed entry. Tickets and access for both are entirely your own arrangement, made directly with the club, the All England Lawn Tennis Club, an official ticketing channel or a hospitality provider. What follows is transport planning only.
Premier League match days
Most Premier League grounds sit in residential areas with restricted parking and road closures that begin well before kick-off, so a private drop-off point is rarely at the stadium gate itself. Your chauffeur will know the practical drop-off and pick-up points for the specific ground and can plan for the walk from there, which varies by stadium. Traffic around match days builds gradually through the afternoon or evening, so allow considerably more time than the same journey would take on a normal day.
Wimbledon days
The All England Club grounds in SW19 see heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic during the Championships, with road restrictions around the grounds and queuing systems that affect timing even for those with confirmed tickets or hospitality passes. A private chauffeur can get you close to the grounds, but the final approach on foot should be planned for, particularly on the busiest days of the tournament.
| Consideration | Transport planning note |
|---|---|
| Kick-off or session start time | Arrive well before the stated time to allow for crowds and walking |
| Road closures | Confirm the nearest practical drop-off point with your chauffeur in advance |
| Post-event departure | Crowds disperse gradually; agree a pick-up point away from the immediate crush |
| Multiple attendees | Confirm whether the group travels together or is collected separately afterwards |
Getting away afterwards
The return journey is often the part visitors underestimate. Immediately after a match or a day's play, roads near the venue are heavily congested and pedestrian crowds can make a kerbside pick-up impractical for some time. Agreeing a realistic pick-up point and a little patience in the first twenty to thirty minutes after the event usually makes for a smoother departure than trying to get collected right at the gate the moment the crowd starts moving.
